Imperial Woodpecker Sno-Balls

Honestly, Imperial Woodpecker wouldn't be my first choice of names for a Sno-Ball joint. Crazy name aside, this spot serves up awesome shaved ice concoctions that hit the spot on a hot summer night. Paul and I just stopped by this weekend and ordered some of their more traditional flavors (cherry, and mango + iced tea), even though the girl at the counter recommended "Tiger Blood" flavor, which she assured us was made with real tiger blood (I think she was just kidding...I think). A ton of ice is packed into each chinese food takeout container, and can be served with a variety of toppings, like condensed milk, sprinkles, and even ice cream. Since the desserts are mostly ice, they are a great low calorie sweet treat to cool you off on a balmy eve. Plus if you sit by the window you can point and laugh at all of the drunk people stumbling around Greenwich Village.
