Urban Pop-up Books by Andreas Johansson


Walking by the Galleri Flach stand at VoltaNY, I was intrigued by the small paper sculpture above. After looking at it for a few minutes, I started to wander away when suddenly a woman with a glove started to turn the pages, and that's when I realized this wasn't just an ordinary sculpture. Swedish artist Andreas Johansson creates these amazing and huge pop-up books filled with urban scenery, instead of the classic cutesy stuff normally found in books made for children. He likes discovering what is meaningful in derelict sites, and re-creating landscapes that are both fateful and full of undiscovered possibilities. See more pop-up pages by Johansson below.
