New York Street Art: Oh Captain My Captain

It's funny how once you know about something you see it everywhere.  We had a chance meeting with street artist OCMC (Oh Captain My Captain) about a month ago and we've since encountered his artwork in several places in downtown NYC.  OCMC's artwork is very cool, featuring old photographs cleaned up, turned into acetates, burnt into silk screens and screend, but what really got us hooked was the concept.

Saddened by the death of his grandmother, OCMC painted and screened her photo and put the screened wheat pastes up in places he frequented throughout the city so that he could encounter her on a daily basis.  Needless to say, as people who have lost loved ones in the past (and who hasn't), we can certainly relate to the art.  Now, Oh Captain works with friends to put up images of their loved ones as well- very awesome.  In the next few weeks we look forward to bringing you at least one feature on Oh Captain My Captain and his work. Who knows, if we're lucky, maybe we can even do more!

Until that happens, you can drop by Captain's website or facebook page to read more.
