Unique New York: The Coney Island Mermaid Parade

Put on your best mermaid attire (read: ho attire) and party with the freakies down by the sea at the Coney Island Mermaid Parade this Saturday. Full of guys praying for wardrobe malfunctions, the parade starts at W. 21st St. and Surf Ave and lasts til about 5pm. The parade pays homage to the defunct Coney Island Mardi Gras, which lasted from 1903 to 1954, so you know it'll be a good time. Every year there are a celebrity King Neptune and Queen Mermaid, and past honorees have included Lou Reed, Queen Latifah, Moby, and Harvey Keitel. Also, be sure to check out the afterparty - The Mermaid Ball - for more wild costumes and dancing. Tickets to the ball can be purchased here.
