In collaboration with Housing Works, New York City is working to place these large textile recycling bins in apartment buildings around the boroughs. The drop boxes make it easy to donate your clothing, shoes and accessories and will insure that the goods reach those who need them most. The Re-FashioNYC message is clear: 'Your donations help reduce NYC waste, and 100% of the proceeds fund lifesaving services for low-income and homeless New Yorkers living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.' As the program gets going the boxes will start to appear in various private and public locations throughout the city but until that point you can request a donation bin for your apartment building through
nyc.gov/refashion (first-come first-served of course). We got a card in the mail at our apartment building and we hope the donation bin will arrive soon!
