Japan Day NYC 2011 @ Central Park

Yesterday we told you about the Japan Block Fair happening this Sunday, May 22nd in Midtown, Manhattan.  Well, there's yet another Japanese event competing for your attention this Sunday starting at 11am in Rumsey Playfield, Central Park- Japan Day.  From the looks of things either event is a solid bet for a fun time and they'll both be accepting donations to help Japan recover from the earthquake and tsunami earlier this year.  Japan Day in Central Park seems to be a bit more traditionally Japanese and includes folk dancing, calligraphy, martial arts and origami.  The event features both performances and a chance to learn about the culture in a more in depth way at activity tents.  If you plan on spending some time with the family on saturday, I'd recommend Japan Day.  The Japan Block Fair will include more otaku culture and food events and is likely to draw teens and young adults creating more of a party atmosphere and less of a family type of event.
