Streetwear Review: Supreme x Comme des Garcons SHIRT 2013 Collection
I had high hopes when I started madly refreshing the Supreme website last Thursday at 10:58am. It was time for the 2013 Supreme x Comme des Garcons SHIRT collaboration. I was hyped for the digital camo motif and was after the coaches jacket and box logo t-shirt. My lightning fast mouse skills landed me both. In the pictures both items looked great- the CDG polka dots on top of either navy or olive digital camo. I was excited when they landed on my doorstep on Monday. See how they stack up below.
Let's start with the Supreme x Comme des Garcons olive camo coaches jacket. I'm going to spare you a lengthy paragraph because this jacket might be the lowest quality item I've bought at Supreme in 8 years of shopping there. The fabric looked vibrant in pictures but has a shiny finish with dull colors in person. It is extremely light weight and feels cheap. The Supreme x Champion coach jackets feel much nicer and keep you warmer. The only difference? The CDG jacket was double the price and the 'made in China' tag is so blatent on the collar that I feel like I'm being trolled hard by Supreme. The only redeeming factor is the fit but for close to $300 after tax and shipping it could still fit better.
Rating: 3/10
Despite the trash that was the coaches jacket, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of The Supreme x Comme des Garcons Box Logo shirt. In an effort to add quality to the collaboration (a shock after seeing the coaches jacket in action) Supreme used a cut and sew shirt rather than their standard t-shirts. At $80 the shirt is far removed from the $28 box logo t-shirts of the good ol' days but the fabric feels really nice and the cut is slightly wider and longer than their normal tees. The camo and polka dots are nicely printed and it comes in a nice dust bag. This one is a keeper and should be a buy if you get the chance- and the hype involved doesn't hurt.
