Minimal, Modern and Luxurious - The Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom
When we checked into the Sofitel Stephansdom in Vienna, I was asked if I wanted a room that was either all grey, or a room which was both grey and black. I knew I belonged. It was an instant win. Somebody check me in for a month please. I love contemporary design and furnishings so walking down the hallway and opening the door to my hotel room was a real treat.
The Sofitel in Vienna is a beautiful new building just across the Danube canal that is covered in glass and has a great view of the city skyline from the higher floors. The spa and penthouse restaurant are coated in psychedelic colors while the rest of the structure remains minimal in greyscale tones. The rooms follow this subdued color scheme but are accented with wall art unique to each space and geometric, rigid looking furniture that proves to be surprisingly comfortable. The bathrooms were the unexpected highlight and featured large soaking tubs, rainfall showers and Hermes toiletries. I don't usually get into hotels, but I really enjoyed the Sofitel Stephansdom and would go out of my way to go back.
