Fashion for Action 2012: Shopping for a Great Cause
Last night was the opening reception and celebration for Housing Works' Fashion for Action charity event. This year, over 250 brands contributed to the Housing Works goal of fighting HIV/AIDS and assisting the low income community coping with the illness.
The VIP shopping hour began at 5:30pm and the crowd quickly grew, filling the space inside the Altman Building in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. Fashion designers like Theory, Brooks Brothers and Diane Von Frustenberg contributed plenty of merchandise which was sold at discounted prices to fund Housing Works' on going mission in NYC (because of the recent Hurricane Sandy disaster, this year some of the proceeds will also aid those affected).
Guests at Fashion for Action were treated to cocktails, snacks and of course a curated shopping experience. The goods for sale were displayed according to designer in a format that mirrored a series of pop-up shops. Everything was expertly styled by the likes of Paper Magazine and in some cases by representatives of the brand themselves. The result was a beautiful presentation and an great event. When we left people were still streaming through the door and the merch was flying off of the racks.
Starting today, the sale is open to the public at Housing Works Chelsea and will be available through November 11th. Go shop already!
