Redbubble Pop Up Shop and Online Marketplace
When I first learned about the online art gallery, marketplace and community called Redbubble, I got pretty excited. It's the place to go on the web if you're tired of the same trends and mass market designs you find in retail stores all over the world and are looking for some original wearable/hangable/skate-able artwork.
The web based platform has grown a ton since it started in Australia several years ago, and now plays host to millions of pieces of art from hundreds of thousands of artists. When you come across a design that you love (it doesn't take long), that design can be purchased in a number of different forms from organic t-shirts to stickers and archival prints.
Last week Redbubble setup a popup store at New York Comic Con. The booth was covered in awesome artwork from cute panda bears to some serious looking skulls and I got a chance to speak to the team about the community. The premise is simple- an artist joins, loads their artwork and waits for a sale. Artists can define what products they want their art printed on and potential buyers can search for designs with keywords and filters and then place their order. With nine million uploaded pieces of art and a print-on-demand business model, it's possible that you could be the only person in the world wearing that design.
At the popup shop, we got to see iPad cases, skate decks, t-shirts and tote bags produced by RB and the quality was topnotch. Shirts were printed on soft American Apparel tees, phone cases were produced by Uncommon specifically for Redbubble and stickers were kiss cut to make them easy to peel. Make sure to check it out!
