Icy and Sot at 379 Broome Opening Party Recap
This past weekend street artists
filled the space at the new Openhouse (379 Broome Street) with their bold, political stencil work. The opening party, which took place on Thursday night, packed the gallery to the brim with every kind of New Yorker, from Soho fashionistas to Fidi business men and Lower East Side hipsters.
While inspiration from famous stencil artists like
and Banksy is evident throughout the show, Icy and Sot have taken a more political route. Emphasizing their Iranian heritage they've incorporated protest and war imagery that represents the political turmoil in the region. While dodging film crews with microphone booms, we photographed some of our favorite pieces from the show below. Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments!
