Con Artist Takes Over WiP Nightclub in Soho

It only takes one step inside WiP in Soho (of recent Drake and Chris Brown bar fight fame) to fall in love with Con Artist collective's total transformation of the space. You'll completely forget that you might need to watch out for flying bottles as soon as you first see The Yok's spray painted cartoons covering the facade and stairway leading down to the Work in Progress basement. And it only gets better from there.

Right at the bottom of the steps we were blown away by artist Dean Millien (above) who was putting the finishing touches on a huge, solid tinfoil gorilla statue. He said there were probably thousands of rolls of foil in the gorilla and we don't doubt it. Down the main hallway, all of the other Con Artists like Rachel Senchoway, Michael Sharp, and IRKT had works on display that ranged from the comical Makin Bacon painting to a pop art take on Lindsay Lohan's drug problem.

Inside the main WiP space, more art was on display. Though the works inside that part of the club were not from Con Artist, there were definitely some innovative displays like a giant animated head floating on the dance floor and all manner of graffiti style murals and tags. Overall, the show was super impressive in terms of both creativity and talent.
