Microphone Check by Karlos Carcamo at Hionas Gallery

For two more days you have the chance to stop by Hionas Gallery in Tribeca to see Karlos Carcamo's exhibit

Microphone Check

.  Inspired by hip hop, DJ culture and old school graffiti, the exhibit incorporates abstract art and contemporary sculpture with a strong urban edge.

Our favorite works from the show blend street art tags with modern paintings into something much more interesting than the two components individually.  The canvases, which appear in blue, red, green and yellow look amazing, and from afar look very similar to a closeup swatch of digital camouflage.  Karlos also created a number of microphone sculptures for the show which have been manipulated using a pipe-bender into their current form which almost makes them look like they're melting.

Take a look at pictures of the exhibit below (courtesy of Karlos himself) and stop by Hionas Gallery at 89 Franklin Street in Tribeca, NYC to see

Microphone Check

through July 7th.
